Banoffee cake is a delicious English dessert composition, and its name comes from the combination of two words: "banana" (banana) and "toffee" (toffee/caramel). This famous cake consists of layers of crunchy biscuit base, thick caramel toffee, banana slices and whipped cream sprinkled with cocoa.
The history of this dessert is quite interesting. According to legend, Banoffee cake was born in the London restaurant "The Hungry Monk" in the 1970s. Two chefs, Nigel Mackenzie and Ian Dowding, came up with the idea of creating a new dessert, which quickly became a hit.
Initially, in the original version, the cake consisted only of a crispy layer of cake, toffee caramel, bananas and cream. However, over time, various variations have gained popularity - some people add nuts, chocolate and even liqueur to it.
