ButtaNutt - how did it start and who is behind it?

ButtaNutt is a proud South African family peanut butter manufacturer that manually produces a series of authentic peanut butters using local and natural ingredients, focusing mainly on macadamia butter.

ButtaNutt founder Antoine van Heerden spent his school holidays harvesting macadamia nuts at his parents' farm on the banks of the Sabie River. South Africa is the largest producer of macadamia nuts in the world, mainly exporting to China. During his final year of mechanical engineering at Stellenbosch University, Antoine began smoking, mixing and selling nuts on weekends at the local Slowfood market. Antoine enrolled in his master's degree in 2014, but quit before the end of the summer to focus on ButtaNutt full-time.

Production takes place at the family-owned plant in Paarl, which is free from any other allergens, including peanuts. ButtaNutt pastes and snacks are produced in accordance with a minimalist philosophy, without the addition of sugars, preservatives, stabilizers or oils, especially without palm oil. ButtaNutt is healthy food, but it's also delicious - perfect balance! The ButtaNutt range consists of dry roasted macadamia nuts, almonds, pecans and cashews.

ButtaNutt pride themselves on sourcing only the best local nuts, if possible directly from the farmers. Pecans are farmed on the banks of the Orange River, almonds are sourced from Klein Karoo, and macadamia nuts are sourced from farmers and their processors in Mpumalanga. Signed with the ButtaNutt logo, peanut pulp was initially available only in South Africa, but since 2017 they can be found in exclusive deli in Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates, and from 2021 they are available in Poland exclusively at Guiltfree.pl
