In Polish it is marshmallow, and in English it is marshmallow. Already the ancient Egyptians used the root of this plant to treat coughs and sore throats and heal wounds. They boiled pieces of roots with honey until a thick mass was obtained, which they then strained and cooled, and later used as needed. In the 19th century, the French modified the Egyptian idea. Pâte de Guimauve was created, a soft dessert made by whipping dried marshmallow roots with sugar, water and egg whites. They were sold in the form of lozenges. Gradually, however, marshmallow was replaced with gelatin, and corn starch was added to the mass, which allowed to create the sweets we know today. Such foams became common in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century, and in the middle of this century they took on the characteristic shape of cylinders.

Probably the most popular desserts with the use of marshmallows are simply baking them over the fire until they are browned. Then they have a caramelized crust on the outside, while inside they hide a sticky, chewy, soft filling. Yummy! Another popular camping delicacy, the recipe of which is about 100 years old, is s'more, which is a baked marshmallow with a piece of chocolate between two crackers. It was allegedly a delicacy of the Scouts. :) Marshmallow cream, which is an indispensable element of the fluffernutter sandwich (two slices of bread with peanut butter and marshmallow cream in between), has a similarly long tradition.
