A&W Cream Soda is a cream-flavored carbonated soft drink introduced by A&W Root Beer in 1986, available in a decaffeinated version since 2017. A&W Cream Soda is the most popular drink with this flavor in the US.
Cream Soda is a sweet soft drink flavored with vanilla and based on the flavor of melted vanilla ice cream, with varying shades of more nuanced flavors.

The original Cream Soda recipe was written by E. M. Sheldon and published in Michigan Farmer in 1852. It involved mixing water, cream of tartare, Epsom salt, sugar, egg and milk, then heating and mixing after cooling with water and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to make a fizzy drink. It has been suggested that it is a temperance drink, superior to 'Uncle Bacchus' drinks, and compliant with recently enacted Maine law.

Alexander C. Howell of Vienna, New Jersey, was granted an exclusive patent for 'creamy soda' on June 27, 1865. Howell's cream soda was made from sodium bicarbonate, water, sugar, egg whites, wheat flour, and 'any of the usual flavorings— such as lemon oil, vanilla extracts, pineapple, depending on the taste'. Before drinking, cream soda was mixed with water and an acid, such as tartaric acid or citric acid.
