If you remember the first version of LoCCo creams, you'll notice a few changes. The most important one? The new recipe has practically identical calorie content but has become even more refined. The cream is distinctly thicker, more compact, and adheres even better to pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal, while the manufacturer has completely eliminated maltitol. The new formula uses only erythritol and steviol glycosides from stevia as a source of sweetness.
LoCCo 8 Calorie Spread Speculoos is a cream inspired by the famous Belgian speculoos cookies – fragrant with caramel, butter, and warm spices. The dominant flavor here is caramelized biscuit with a delicate hint of cinnamon, subtle notes of warm spices, and a buttery finish. It's a dessert profile that evokes freshly baked shortbread cookies eaten with a cup of coffee, enclosed in an exceptionally thick, velvety consistency.
What has changed in the new LoCCo formula?
The biggest change is the recipe. The manufacturer has opted out of maltitol and sucralose, replacing them with a combination of erythritol and steviol glycosides. At the same time, it has maintained practically identical calorie content – about 150 kcal per 100g of product. The consistency, however, has changed. The new version is even thicker and creamier, making it perfect as a spread, as well as an ingredient for desserts or baked goods.
The base of the cream remains water and inulin – a natural dietary fiber responsible for its structure and high fiber content. A carefully selected blend of aromas builds the characteristic taste of speculoos cookies: caramel, slightly buttery, and subtly spicy. The result is a cream that captures the character of iconic Belgian cookies, while remaining exceptionally light in terms of nutritional value.
8 kcal per teaspoon and the taste of speculoos cookies
LoCCo Speculoos shows that a dessert inspired by some of Europe's most beloved cookies can have surprisingly few calories. 100g of the product provides only 151 kcal and just 2.3g of fat, and one teaspoon (5g) is about 8 kcal. At the same time, the cream contains as much as 17g of fiber per 100g due to its high inulin content.
It tastes great with pancakes, waffles, French toast, oatmeals, and rice puddings. It pairs perfectly with apples, pears, and bananas, and is excellent as an addition to yogurts, cheesecakes, protein desserts, or homemade ice cream. Its thick consistency also allows it to be used as a filling cream for fit cakes or as a stuffing for pancakes and croissants, and for many, the best use will simply be a spoon and a jar.
