In the UK, Old Jamaica Ginger Beer is one of the best-loved "ginger beers." A drink created using real fiery Jamaican ginger roots. Apart from the name, ginger beer doesn't have much to do with beer: it is a traditional delicacy from the UK and the US that can be described as "dry lemonade," with bubbles and a slight bitterness, sweet and refreshing at the same time.

Ginger beer originated in England, where it began to be produced and exported around the world in the mid-1800s. Before the end of the 19th century, ginger beer was produced in almost every town in the UK - by 1935 there were more than 3,000 ginger beer producers in the UK.

The basic ingredients of traditional ginger beer are ginger, lemon, sugar and yeast. True ginger beer is made from raw ginger (Zingiber officinale) roots, often with additional flavoring ingredients such as juniper (Juniperus communis), licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) or chili (Capsicum annuum). When making Jamaican ginger beer, lime is used instead of lemon.

BACARDI Gold Rum & Ginger Beer Recipe

Ingredients:

• 150ml Old Jamaica Ginger Beer
• 50ml Bacardi Gold Rum or Bacardi White Rum
• 1 lime (preferably) or lemon

Preparation: Put a few ice cubes in a tall glass. Cut a lime in half. Squeeze one half into the glass. Cut the other one in half quarters and drop it into the glass. Pour in the Bacardi, top up with Old Jamaica Old Beer and you're done. Recommended!
